Systems Engineer

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the implementation of Professional Services projects, taking ownership of individual work packages where appropriate, or working as part of a larger team
  • Ensuring that all work is delivered with a minimum of customer impact and within the appropriate change control procedures
  • Maintaining a billable utilisation rate of >75% (or rate as otherwise determined) by ensuring that work undertaken is appropriately authorised and approved as billable
  • Contributing to and updating bid, project, departmental and technical documents
  • Working within Advanced’s Information Security and Acceptable Use Policy and Procedures
  • Occasionally responding and assisting with support calls assigned via Advanced’s Service Desk
  • Maintain an awareness of developments and best practice and adapt and apply new and appropriate ideas

 

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will bring with them/be:

  • Interest and dedication to keeping well informed about developments within the IT industry, especially new networking technologies
  • Self-motivated – personal drive and enthusiasm to continually improve and provide the best in all situations
  • Flexibility – Ability and willingness to accept and adapt to a changing environment and adjust behaviours. Taking account of differing factors, perspective and views
  • Ability to accommodate some work from customer sites (which may be based outside of London)
  • An ambassador for Advanced in customer environments
  • A team player with a ‘Can-do’ approach
  • Ability to own, prioritise and be responsible for own workload.
  • Ability to nurture a positive image of company, and to adhere and positively contribute to the companies rules, regulations, processes, ethos and culture
  • Adhering to data centre policies and procedures. Proven ability working in high-availability production environments within commercial data centres.
  • Professional approach and manner, proper dress and personal presentation

 

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Skills:

  • Experience in implementation, supporting and troubleshooting in the following technology areas (current & new/latest releases):
  • Microsoft Windows
  • Active Directory (including GPO management and use of Powershell)
  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Citrix
  • Experience in VMware ESXi environments with experience in virtual server deployments and support
  • Experience in enterprise management tools such as anti-virus (McAfee, Symantec etc), backup/replication (Veeam, Zerto etc)
  • Experience in implementing Mobile Device Management technologies – Airwatch preferred
  • Experience of firewall and VPN operation and troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Experience of working in a shared infrastructure services environment
  • Good understanding of cabling, fibre and connectivity technologies and standards.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Detailed understanding of a variety of network infrastructures
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Azure environments
  • Experience in Microsoft Skype for Business
  • Familiarity with database technologies (SQL 2000, 2005 & 2008)
  • Experience with ITIL, TOGAF & Prince-2 methodologies and frameworks would be beneficial
  • Experience of a range of storage solutions and technologies (e.g. SANs, NAS, DAS, IBM, NetApp, Pillar & HP)

 

Education / Qualifications

  • MSCE or equivalent experience preferred
  • VMware VCP or higher desirable
  • Citrix CCA or higher desirable
