Main Purpose of the Job

 

To provide optimal value to the business by:

  • Leading customer focussed Software and Services projects delivering to agreed, contracted scope, time and budget thresholds
  • Be accountable for the success or failure of projects within your portfolio; measured against adherence to budget and scope tolerances, project margin performance, delivery efficiency, and customer satisfaction
  • Take responsibility for progressing projects, driving remedial activities to resolution, and bringing together necessary departments to assist where appropriate
  • Adherence to the Advanced CPM Project Delivery Methodology; including completion of all mandatory documents throughout each project’s life-cycle, diligently building project status reports, services consumption reports, project milestone sign-off document, handover processes, as part of regular Project Governance commitments
  • Manage projects to contracted scope to ensure delivery to specification, time and budget, with management of Change for new scope requests
  • Manage project risk through the governance process and maintain risk and issues registers within the SharePoint document folders
  • Through effective people management, ensure that the projects teams are well briefed on the objectives of projects, their responsibilities within the project, and the vision for the outcome is known to the whole project team
  • Help to ensure that the Services team (and wider business) are skilled sufficiently to deliver the project work packages they are assigned, and contribute to an ethos of “continuous improvement” to help refine delivery processes. Where training requirements are identified, remedial action should be agreed with individuals or line-management.
  • Deliver Project Management Services as a “consumable” service; ensuring all project-related activity is capture appropriately
  • Travel as required and requested to meet the demands of the business and the project portfolio
  • Take ownership and drive activity across all facets of owned projects; including, where applicable, managing development streams, processes and deliveries in order to successfully deliver your project(s)
  • The Project Manager will be accountable for the overall success of the projects they own including the time and value budgets, delivery scope, and accuracy of the deployed software and services
  • Typical project size of 30 to 150 days

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal resources across multiple departments (as well as customer and third parties) to delivery professional, methodology-led projects
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within time and resources budgets, and where budgets are insufficient, manage client expectations to ensure services are not written off as FoC
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility of scoped solutions where appropriate
  • Book and manage internal resource (working with internal stakeholders such as the Development and Consultant leads if required) to maximise team billable activities
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, provide regular status and consumption reports, monitor and track progress project process and resource allocations
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate defined techniques
  • Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques following internal methodology
  • Report and escalate project issues, delays, overrun to management as appropriate
  • Successfully manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders including external exec level project sponsors
  • Identify, track and mitigate risk within project to minimise and manage potential issues
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors to enable efficient project delivery during multi-vendor projects
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation as defined by the business methodology

 

Person Specification

 

The ideal candidate will bring with them:

  • Proven working experience in project management, preferably within Technology sector
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development projects and web technologies is an advantage
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively within a team, individually, and leading a team
  • Evidence of strong stakeholder management, and able to interact with teams and individuals throughout multiple layers of an organisation – from CEO to entry-level operational teams
  • An ability to lead by example, coaching team members to take on new areas is essential to the success of the role
  • An ability to think clearly under pressure, and comfortable working to tight deadlines
  • Flexibility is essential, due to the nature of the business, enabling schedules and resources to be deployed across the areas of the business functions relative to the changing demands of customer and project requirements
  • A diligent, organised and dedicated individual with a desire to part of a change process to bring business benefit through operational improvements with the opportunity to influence the revenue profile of the business

 

 

Knowledge and Experience

 

Essential Skills:

  • Experience of scheduling and managing resources to deliver to tight deadlines, often under pressure from multiple internal and external sources
  • Experience of working in a customer focused role, with exposure to client-facing activities
  • Experience working in a fast-paced business with an ever-changing set of operation priorities
  • Experience of working in Project Management capacity and evidence of delivering project success

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of running a Change Process would be advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of hosting technologies and infrastructure
  • Experience of working on Technical or Complex Software projects involving multiple cloud, hosting and database technologies
