Senior Software Engineer (OpenVMS)

Job Description
As a software developer, you are responsible for the maintenance, development and support of our mission-critical Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software for K12 educational institutions. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will follow the Agile development methodology to maintain and enhance our ERP software through our iterative scrum process. Our current legacy system runs on HP I64 hardware and an OpenVMS operating system with supporting Java applications.

Accountabilities
• Customer Technical Issue Resolution
• Defect Resolution
• Solution Design
• Solution Development

Key Responsibilities
• Resolve technical customer issues based on defect priorities
• Develop and maintain the code for a complex in-house legacy ERP system
• Establish end-to-end knowledge of code within ERP system
• Collaborate with product owners, developers, services engineers, and technical support personnel across multiple teams to assess and repair system issues and develop new software features based on customer requests
• Work closely with internal QA teams to ensure complete and successful testing for code developed or modified
• Manage workload between multiple concurrent projects and technical issues
• An understanding of Finance, HR, or Payroll systems would be a benefit
• Provide after-hours support on occasion
• Other duties as required

Skills & Requirements

Qualifications

 
• Minimum of 5 years of experience with OpenVMS and VAX/VMS BASIC
• Understand software development lifecycle processes, specifically Agile and Scrum processes
• Experience with managing source code and build processes
• Experience testing and debugging code
• Analytical mindset and critical thinking
• Experience supporting java applications would be a benefit
• An understanding of object-oriented development and C#/.Net would be a benefit
• Have effective collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills
