Vice President, User Experience

This position, under the general guidance of the Chief Product Officer, will work closely with the product and development teams, while mentoring and managing a national team of UX experts, market research, and end user on-line documentation. This role requires mastery of technical skills, design processes, and trends in the broader UX industry as well as deep knowledge in usability research and in application learning experience. You will be expected to provide vision for our next generation, best in class platform UX direction and design system while guiding our UX team to execute along that trajectory, acting as a mentor, mediator, and creative art director. To effectively guide the team, you will iterate on processes, including research, testing, reviews, management of deliverables and more. Working closely with product management and development leaders, you will help to set the future direction and pace of innovation in our organization.

  • Lead, develop and guide recommendations for PowerSchool design system
  • Monitors and drives all performance goals
  • Coaches and develops employees
  • Manage and lead team to meet all project objectives and deadlines
  • Works to increase team efficiency and effectiveness to achieve long term goals
  • Participates in hiring of new team members
  • Performs any HR related tasks
  • Manage and load-balance projects between team members and mentor UX designers to deliver seamless user experiences across desktop, web, and mobile
  • Lead multiple teams that develop application end user online documentation and transformation activities across entire portfolio of products
  • Build strong business relationships with product management and development leadership
  • Manage team of user research professionals to design, conduct, and evaluate studies to understand and improve user experience, documenting requirements
  • Define and prioritize designs schedule to meet needs of future releases
  • Develop annual budget plan, manage expenses and planned team growth for the User Experience department
  • Identify possible usability obstacles and work with the team to find innovative solutions to minimize impact
  • Guide the team to create and implement strategies that improve user experience through design
  • Work directly with end users and clients to identify requirements and ensure a positive experience
  • Other duties as assigned 
Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Art, Human Factors, HCI, Psychology, Cognitive Science, or Informatics; Master’s degree, preferred
  • 10+ years of design and usability/research, with 7+ years in a leadership role
  • Understanding of best practices end user documentation and in application learning experiences 
  • Deep understanding and experience working in an Agile Software Development Life Cycle
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly-focused, teamwork environment using a client-focused philosophy
  • Strong process development and management skills • Self-starter and with demonstrated initiative • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Proven interaction design abilities, illustrated in a portfolio (required)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong visual design skills
  • Experience with Photoshop, Axure, Sketch, OmniGraffle, or InVision (or equivalent)
  • Experience with Confluence and Jira
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS DocuSign
