Senior Revenue Accountant

PowerSchool is looking for a skilled Senior Revenue Accountant to join its Revenue Accounting team.  Your responsibilities will include all day to day activities in the revenue process including contract review for compliance with PowerSchool’s revenue recognition policy, monthly revenue close, account reconciliations, reporting and analysis, and audit support.  You will also directly participate and contribute to our ASC 606 adoption project, new company acquisition and integration activity, and support the annual audit.  This is a critical role in a growing and maturing group and requires an exceptional performer.  The successful candidate will be able to learn new processes quickly, adapt to ever-changing priorities, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively across the team and across multiple functions including sales operations, IT, and the Billing team, among others.  This position reports directly to the Director, Revenue Recognition.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that revenue is recognized in accordance with Corporate policy
  • Participation in all aspects of the revenue close, including creating journal entries, reconciliations, etc.
  • Analyzing revenue trends and investigating variances
  • Participate in all aspects of external auditor work
  • Prepare VSOE/BESP/SSP studies and analysis
  • Stay current on revenue recognition guidance and apply interpretations of guidance with respect to company revenues
  • Identify and recommend process improvements in the order-to-cash process.
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures and accounting policies.
  • Support system implementations and maintenance
  • Assist in special projects.
  • Preparing balance sheet flux analysis for deferred revenue accounts and accounts receivable
Skills & Requirements


  • 2-4 years of revenue recognition experience, preferably with Big 4 Public Accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (CPA or CPA-eligible required)
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition US GAAP (ASC 606 experience a plus)
  • Experience using Salesforce.com and NetSuite a plus
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Detailed-oriented with excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent computer skills with MS Office software, including Excel, Word, Google Apps and PowerPoint
  • Software as a Service (SaaS) and NetSuite experience is a plus
  • Must have a team-oriented work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt in an environment where change is the norm
