Associate Manager, Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering Team works with customer agencies and 3rd party vendors to collect requirements and configuration information for software interfaces between Zuercher applications and third-party systems.


The Associate Systems Engineering Manager oversees the collection and directs the work of the System Engineer team for projects and interface support. This person will also serve as the technical resource manager and will spend some portion of time performing the work of the team they direct.

Skills & Requirements


Manages the creation of Zsuite interface specifications, configuration, testing, and implementation of standard and custom interfaces for on time delivery to new and existing agencies at Go Live.


Completes assessment of the customers’ technical and operational requirements for integration including third party API documentation, and defines a technically feasible specification that satisfy API, hardware, virtualization and network requirements.


Develops and maintains a proficient knowledge of ZSuite applications and the interfaces between external applications and products


Manages level of effort estimates, statuses, deadlines, and interface release timelines

Ensures on time delivery of thorough, complete and Customer- and vendor-approved interface specifications for the ZSuite software development cycle.


Balances 2nd tier interface support queue with project priorities.


Drives the expansion of Support and company-wide interface knowledge through documentation, presentations and wikis.


Identifies and creates specifications for product enhancements that will improve interface deployability and supportability.

Operates as a resource to less experienced Systems Engineers, providing an open learning environment for cross-team knowledge sharing. Shares technical knowledge in both one-on-one and group settings.


Provides meaningful feedback to direct reports including annual performance reviews. Works with each direct report to set and achieve short and long-term goals.


Travels as required to complete project deliverables.


Actively participate in the enhancement and maintenance of the Zuercher product documentation and knowledgebase.

Able to continually pass background check requirements for working on and connecting to public safety information systems.

Education:  BA/BS in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience required.

Professional Certifications:  n/a

Specialized Knowledge:  Proficient in software requirements analysis and definition. Expertise in development of software and hardware test procedures and conducting associated tests. Experience in public safety and/or radio systems a plus.

Computer Skills:  Knowledge of XML, JSON and other data exchange formats. Knowledge of relational databases and programming languages such as C# and scripting languages. Experience with SQL Server technology and SQL queries. Experience with MS Word, MS Project, MS Visio or other diagrammatic tools.

Experience (years and type): Typically requires up to six years of experience in area of supervision with one year of leadership responsibility.

Competencies:  Requirement gathering and articulating technical and functional concepts to technical and non-technical audiences. Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently and effectively manage priorities to meet multiple project timelines. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to project management best practices. Prior management experience highly desirable.
