Job Description

Administering primarily Linux production SaaS systems/services. Managing, maintaining AWS, Azure and colocation facilities. Working with customers and internal teams to ensure the highest system uptime and availability.

We are looking for a dynamic person who excels working on multiple projects, dealing with a variety of layers and technologies. Our ideal candidate would be resourceful, flexible, self-motivated and takes initiative. You will be joining an experienced team implementing and managing clients.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Set up and maintain colocation hosted infrastructure as well as AWS and Azure.
  2. Set up and maintain system-monitoring tools, ie Nagios and application monitoring tools such as AppDynamics.
  3. Support the engineering teams regarding CI/build tools, environments and automation.
  4. Help Development teams architect their products and automate the environment setup.
  5. Partner with the development team to manage the full stack from release cycles to data security.
  6. Monitor and tune server performance.
  7. Lead efforts to design and build automation in the areas of application deployment, configuration management, release operations, on demand resource adjustments, etc.
  8. Drive best practices; standardize build and deployment processes and tools across systems.
  9. Share knowledge with other team members on the usage of automation tools and help grow the team.
  10. Proactively identify areas of improvement and help streamline operations.
  11. As needed, provide application infrastructure support for applications.
  12. Troubleshoot system issues and failures.
  13. Manage and maintain networking systems including encryption technologies.
  14. Challenge the current architecture and drive for better, stronger, faster, higher uptime.
  15. Adhere to strict change control and associated management.
Skills & Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Certification in Linux, Azure, and/or AWS would highly preferred.

Work Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience with Linux, experience with cloud solutions such as Azure and AWS, DevOps, managed large-scale infrastructure, etc.

Knowledge

  • Strong scripting skills – deployment automation and configuration management experience along with experience working with tools like Chef, Puppet, Ansible and Salt are strong assets.
  • Hands-on experience with a breadth of technologies across operating systems, application servers, database and middleware infrastructure – being comfortable with both Linux and Windows environments is required.
  • Proven knowledge of software architectures for performance, scalability and high availability – experience developing and deploying software products is a very strong asset.
  • Experience with multi-tenancy and the associated capabilities an asset
  • Proven knowledge of networking concepts and services for security, reliability and scalability.
  • Ability to create, deploy and manage colocation and cloud systems and services.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and migration paths to cloud infrastructure
  • Knowledge around security best practices and understanding of vulnerability assessments

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Must be able to take initiative on projects and proactively offer suggestions and/or resolutions
  • Creative thinker, proactive, team player, and success-oriented, delivers on commitments
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the software development life cycle including requirements definition, initial application design, testing, and final implementation
  • Linux, Azure and/or AWS certification required (either before or during tenure)
  • Security certifications are an asset
