INTERN- UX Researcher

The UX Research Internship is a part-time, 6 month program that supports the growth and interest in the User Experience field. This person will gain practical, hands-on experience in various research methodologies, with a focus on survey creation, interviewing, usability testing, and screening/recruiting participants. This person will work out of the SLO office for 20+ hr/wk on a set (but flexible) schedule.


Job Responsibilities

Prepare, Conduct, Analyze Research

  • Create surveys using QuestionPro
  • Run usability tests and interview clients on the phone/in person
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative research
  • Prepare research readouts/decks that effectively communicate research findings to stakeholders

Recruit Research Participants

  • Work with UX Researchers to determine target-user traits/criteria
  • Create screeners to ensure participants meet the criteria
  • Work with data scientists to pull lists of clients who qualify for research
  • Write recruiting emails to clients to encourage them to participant in research
  • Use Ethn.io tool to schedule the research meetings, most of which happen on the phone
  • Book meeting rooms and invite team members to research sessions using Outlook
  • Keep our research database updated (aka, clients who have opted-in to do research with us)
  • Purchase and send Amazon gift cards to clients who have participated in a research study


  Support the UX Research Team

  • Take details notes during research sessions and brainstorm meetings
  • Contact clients via email and phone to book on-site visits to their business
  • Support the workload of UX Researchers & Recruiters as needed


Desired Research Experience

  • Experience conducting research in the social sciences or humanities
  • Experience analyzing/coding qualitative and/or quantitative data
  • Experience interviewing research participants
  • Experience building rapport with research participants

  • Be excited about User Experience Research and a drive to learn about the broader UX field
  • Be outgoing and very comfortable talking to clients on the phone/interviewing them
  • Be incredibly organized and capable of juggling multiple projects at the same time
  • Be self-driven, finding innovative ways to help the team when there is lull in your task load
  • Fully own research projects from start to finish, while keeping manager up-to-date on their status
  • Be proficient in Google Docs and Spreadsheets
